Easy Ways to Participate

Each year, the Thornhill PFC spends an average of $1,000 per child to provide programs for all students. These are programs not covered by state or federal funding. As we all know, the 2020-21 school year is not the typical year, however the PFC still continues to fundraise to fill the gaps and ensure that our kids have the best educational experience possible. One of the primary ways that we do that is through the Thornhill Annual Fund (previously known as the Back to School Donation Drive).

Even when school is happening at our kitchen tables, the Thornhill PFC funds additional resources to keep our school community thriving. Here is what we’re funding so far this year:

  • Three teachers’ aides
  • A music teacher
  • An African dance teacher
  • PE Coach
  • A social worker
  • A librarian
  • A gardening teacher
  • Teacher supplies and online learning platforms

We anticipate that needs will change as the year continues, and it is hard to predict how much we will ultimately need to raise. For now, we’re using $1,000 per student as a target (the amount that the PFC spends per student in a typical year). We know that parents and teachers are juggling so much right now, but we ask that you consider joining us in supporting the Thornhill school community and enriching the school experiences our kids have during this unprecedented time. Thank you for considering making a donation to support Thornhill!

How to donate

Our goal is 100% participation. If our entire community is able to contribute, it makes it so much easier! While our fundraising target is $1,000 per student, we realize that every family situation is different, so please contribute at the level that is appropriate for your family. Every gift is appreciated!

Donate by check by sending a check made out to “Thornhill Parent Faculty Club” and then mail it to “Thornhill Annual Fund, 6265 Virgo Road, Oakland, CA 94611”. Fill out the donation form online and drop a check in the mail. Easy!

Donate online. PayPal does take out fees, but it is easy and quick! Fill our the donation form online. From there, click over to PayPal, and you’re done!

No matter how you donate, donating in installments is always an option. We’ve offered some options to get you started, but any cadence works. If you need any help, just drop us an email at annualfund@thornhillschool.org.

Matching gifts from your employer are a great way to get additional support for our school. Many companies offer this, so it is worth it to find out if your employer is one of them.

Thornhill PFC is a 501(c)3 non-profit, so your donations are tax deductible.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What forms of payment do you accept?
We accepts checks, or online payment via PayPal and suggest a $1,000 donation per student. A donation at any amount is appreciated!

There are two ways to participate:
  • Check (preferred). Fill out the donation form online and drop a check in the mail. Easy! Please make checks payable to 'Thornhill PFC' and mail to: “Thornhill Annual Fund, 6265 Virgo Road, Oakland, CA 94611”.
  • Online. Donate via credit card or with your PayPal account.

If you have the option, we prefer checks since we pay a 2.2% fee to PayPal for all online transactions.
Is there a preferred method of payment?
Yes! If you have the option, we prefer checks over online donations since we pay a 2.2% fee to PayPal for every online transaction. Those fees add up, but we are happy to pay them to make it more convenient for parents.

Fill out the donation form online and please make checks payable to 'Thornhill Parent Faculty Club'.and mail it to “Thornhill Annual Fund, 6265 Virgo Road, Oakland, CA 94611”.
Do I need to donate by a certain date?
The reason we ask for donations early in the year is because they are used to pay for several teacher salaries, including our P.E. teacher and librarian. We also pay for various enrichment activities and need to know our budget so we can plan for the school year.

If donating early does not work with your family’s budget, you still have options. Your donations will be accepted at any time and will still help support our school. We can also arrange installment plans if that works better for your budget. Contact us at
bsdd@thornhillschool.org with questions.
Do you do employer matching?
Absolutely yes! Last year, we raised over $20,000 in employer matching alone!! Please check with your employer to see if they will match your donation to Thornhill. It only takes a few minutes and it DOUBLES your impact! Our tax ID information is on the donation form (.pdf).
The PayPal link does not seem to working for me.
If you would like to use PayPal and are having issues with the link on our site, go directly to PayPal.com and click on the send money link. You can send money directly to bsdd@thornhillschool.org.

Please add a note when you send the money to let us know it’s for the Annual along with your child(ren)'s name(s), and then mail to the address listed above.
