Thornhill Walkathon

Thornhill Elementary School’s annual walkathon is our largest, family-friendly, fundraising event of the year!

Students, parents, siblings, friends, teachers, and staff will be in their walking shoes, walking lap after lap around the school campus to raise funds in support of our Parent Faculty Club (PFC) enrichment and community programs.
Our fundraising goal for the walkathon this year is $20,000.

The funds we raise are essential in helping the Parent Faculty Club continue to support the salaries of the school’s physical education coach, art instructor, classroom aides, librarian, and the music instructor for TK-2. It also helps underwrite art programming and supplies, field trips and assemblies, library and resource purchases, school music programs, computer hardware and software, garden projects, and much more!

We Did it Thunderbirds: $25K Raised!

A huge thank you to everyone who walked, volunteered, and/or donated to help make this year's walkathon one of our most successful yet!

How it Works

1. COLLECT PLEDGES

Set up your student's online pledge account at funrun.com so they can collect pledges from friends and family.

Pledges will be a flat donation of any amount (not per lap walked).

2. VOLUNTEER

There will be many opportunities before, during, and after the walkathon for parents and family members to volunteer. Help out while your kids walk laps!

3. WALK!

Join us anytime the day of the walkathon, November 2nd between 10AM to 4PM, and walk, walk, walk!

Kids will get prizes for the number of laps walked as well as the total number of laps per class. Check the FAQs below for all of the prize details!

Will we be able to check in and get lap cards before the day of the walkathon?
Yes! Pre-event check-in will take place in the school lobby on the following dates:
  • Thursday, October 31st, before and after school
  • Friday, November 1st, before school
What other activities will be available during the walkathon?
Need to take a break between laps? Stop by one of our community-hosted booths, and learn more about all of the ways in which you can get involved at Thornhill:
  • Book Swap Booth. Bring your gently used volumes to the walkathon, and pick up some new reads as we head into the holiday season. All children's reading levels are welcome—from board books through middle school. We will be collecting donations, trading books, and handing out good reads to anyone who wants one.
    • In addition, we will be accepting new and used donations for the Thornhill Library. Please check out the Thornhill Library's Amazon wish list for ideas.
    • We'd be happy to take books off your hands before the walkathon to pre-seed our swap selection; email our VP of Community Support, Becky Urbano, to coordinate drop-off at school.
  • Bake Sale, hosted by the 4th Graders. Stop by for some scrumptious cookies, cakes, pies, and additional sweet treats (cash only, please). All proceeds will help to offset costs for the annual 4th grade field trip to Coloma Outdoor Discovery School.
  • Dance Off. Resident DJ and Thornhill parent, DJ Noah, will be spinning some tunes to keep our walkers energized.
  • Green Team Tent. Meet members of our Sustainability Team, who will be sharing ideas and raising awareness about how we can reduce waste as a community.
  • Host a Party Preview. A few upcoming hosted parties will be available for purchase. Lace up your sneakers and bring your credit card to get a head start on all the fun.
  • Lost and Found Racks. Sift through the racks for your lost treasures from 11am-3pm. All remaining clothing will be donated after the walkathon, so please be sure to stop by!
  • Fingerprinting for Parent Volunteers: Rëdtomatoës will be onsite from 10am-1pm to offer fingerprinting services. It is $37 per scan, payable by cash, check, or charge. Remember to bring your ID!
Can non-Thornhill siblings participate too?

What are the walkathon rules?
  1. No bikes, no skates. Feet only!
  2. No dogs. We love your pets, but please leave them at home.
  3. Play fair! Stay on the course, and walk your own laps. You cannot give someone else your lap card to get punched while you take a break. And you may carry only one card—your own.
  4. We can only credit you for laps walked, not for any other activity you did that day, no matter how hard you worked or played! We understand you might need to leave for another activity. Walk all you can, and come back later if you like!

Are walkathon sponsorship opportunities available?
Yes! Key to our walkathon's success are generous donations from local businesses—please consider supporting these businesses in return!

If you are interested in sponsoring this year, please contact walkathon@thornhillschool.org.
Is there a minimum pledge amount in order to participate?
No, while there are minimum amounts and minimum laps to receive prizes, everyone is welcome to just come walk! There is no minimum pledge amount in order to receive a lap card.
I'm interested in helping out and/or have additional questions not answered here.
Terrific, we have lots of opportunities available still! Sign up to volunteer on Konstella and/or contact our Walkathon Chairs, Rianna Stoll and Kelsey Nariani at walkathon@thornhillschool.org.
