Readathon

The Thornhill Readathon is one of our main fundraising events, raising nearly $25,000 each year to help support programs and fill major gaps in our PFC budget.
We challenge kids to read, and they encourage family and friends to contribute based on their reading activity. A number of exciting Readathon-related programs, including Read-Ins and Meet the Author visits are also held in conjunction with the main event. Have questions? Want to get involved next year? 2019 Reading Challenge Winners
- Participation. Ms. Van Ostrand's 3rd grade class had 100% reader participation and enjoyed a lunch party catered by Homeroom!
- Fundraising. Extreme Pizza donated an XL cheese pizza for the pizza party in Mrs. Holman's rockstar fundraising 1st grade class.
- All-Star Top 50. Fifty students who really stood out from across the school--from the number of minutes they read to the funds they raised to really giving it their all and putting in an incredible effort--enjoyed a special Italian Ice party with our very own librarian, Mrs. Fox! Thanks to Flavor Brigade for donating their delicious Italian Ice for this special event!

On Monday, April 15th from 8:00-8:45am, we held all- school book sale of the best-selling graphic novel series, HiLo, to support the readathon. Complimentary coffee and treats were provided.
Mrs. Dalloway’s Bookstore was on site selling copies of the book, and Judd Winick was there to sign! Mrs. Dalloway's generously donated 20% of pre-tax sales back to Thornhill.
Thanks to Safeway on College Avenue for the donuts and Starbucks in Montclair for the coffee too!
Following the coffee talk and book sale, author Judd Winick, presented HiLo 5: Then Everything Went Wrong to the 3rd-5th graders.

Featuring local children's book author, Matt Heroux, and illustrator, Wednesday Kirwan
On Wednesday, April 3 from 5:30 to 7pm in Thornhill’s multi-purpose room, local children’s book author Matt Heroux and illustrator Wednesday Kirwan joined us for a fun-filled night of reading, illustrating, and treats!
Matthew Heroux and Wednesday Kirwan wrote Owl Love You together while walking their dog, Nemo. Owl Love You is a bedtime book that features lulling, lyrical text and luminous illustrations of the night time world. Wednesday is a children’s book author and the illustrator of Henry’s Bright Idea and Magnolia’s Magnificent Map, in the Walnut Animal Society series, written by Lauren Bradshaw. She is also the illustrator of the entertaining children’s bedtime book Yeti, Turn Out the Light! By Greg Long and Chris Edmundson. This is Matt’s first book and their first book together as a married couple.

Cancun Sabor Mexicano Berkeley generously donated buckets of chips and salsa and Lucky's Montclair donated a whole bunch of refreshments for the event as well.
Thanks to the generosity of all of our donors, this was an amazing FREE event for the entire family!
