Thornhill Library Amazon Wish List

I joined the Thornhill community in the Spring of 2018, and am thrilled to begin my second year as the librarian here at Thornhill! I have lived in Oakland for the last 15 years, and my husband and I have three daughters—all of whom are now Thunderbirds—Lucy (5th grade), Kaya (2nd grade), and Grace (TK). I have a BA in English Literature from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and I am currently studying to get my Masters in Library and Information Sciences at SJSU.

❝ I love that libraries are a space for children to explore new pathways and deepen familiar ones.❞

I am lucky enough to interact with every student at Thornhill every week. In my time with the students, we read and discuss books that are related to current cultural events, just for fun, or are connected to their curriculum—supporting what they are learning in their classrooms. I work to support student skills for navigating fiction and non-fiction texts. I also coordinate author visits, make book recommendations, and offer activity centers.

I love that libraries are a space for children to explore new pathways and deepen familiar ones. Research has shown that schools staffed with a qualified librarian have a boost to their student achievement. My aim is to support all students in their educational journey: I am passionate about supporting students in discovering what sparks their interests and helping to develop their critical thinking and information-gathering skills.

Thornhill students are amazing! I am grateful to be a part of the school culture which really celebrates reading. The library belongs to all of the students, teachers, families, and staff at our school. I encourage you to come by and check it out.

If you are interested in supporting the library, please contact Ms. Fox about volunteering, and/or you can purchase books for the students from our Thornhill Library Amazon wish list.
