OUSD Enrollment Information

The Options process for the new school year will open its first window of applications between December 5, 2011 and January 20, 2012. YOU MUST CONTACT OUSD AS YOUR FIRST STEP, NOT THORNHILL. Please contact Thornhill only to RSVP for a school tour on November 29, December 1, January 4, 5.  Information Nights are on November 30 from 6:30-8pm and January 4 from 6:30-8pm and no RSVP is necessary for these Information Nights.

Options Forms for 2012-2013 will become available starting December 5, 2011. No applications will be accepted before that date.  OUSD will not accept previous year applications. APPLICATIONS MAILED, FAXED OR EMAILED TO OUSD WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. Please turn them in at 2111 International Blvd or at any OUSD School site in person. If applicant is not present to do so during this window of time please call 510-434-7752, or email: enroll@ousd.k12.ca.us during business hours and ask for instructions. Thornhill Tours and Information Nights

Two information nights are scheduled for November 30, 2011 and January 4, 2012 from 6:30-8pm in Thornhill’s Multipurpose room. No RSVP needed.  Adults only, please. Childcare is not available.

Tours for prospective students and families are currently scheduled for the dates listed below. No other tours are offered, so please plan accordingly.  The tour will begin with a general orientation and end with a brief Q&A session. Each tour will visit the kindergarten classrooms, and visit the main areas of the school. All tours will begin at 9:00 AM and space is limited.

Tours are for parents/ guardians only, although infants in a carrier or backpack are welcome. Please keep in mind that tours will visit classrooms and we want to be considerate to learning environments in the classrooms. We encourage small children to stay at home or at daycare.

Call Thornhill Elementary at 510-339-6800 to get on the tour list. Please call back if you need to cancel. Tours will meet in front of Thornhill Elementary at the main external gate (that leads into main building of school). Meet on the front sidewalk area outside of the gate. A Thornhill Parent Volunteer (tour guide) will greet visitors at that spot.

Prospective families are also welcome to join us at the spring Open House to be held May 23, 2012.

Thornhill Elementary School Registration Procedures For Neighborhood Children

AFTER you have received written confirmation from OUSD that your option for Thornhill was approved,  please follow these steps to register your child at Thornhill:

  1. MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE SCHOOL SECRETARY–IN MARCH/APRIL. The school secretary is generally available to assist with registration issues between 9:30-11 AM and 1-4 PM. Please call the school at (510) 339-6800 to make an appointment to meet with the school secretary typically in March or April to register your child entering Thornhill for following autumn.
  2. COME TO YOUR APPOINTMENT WITH PAPERWORK. When you come to the office, you will need to turn in a registration form and submit various original copies of documents.   All documents will be photocopied and returned to you.
    1. REGISTRATION FORM – These will be available beginning December 5 from the Student Assignment Office or at Thornhill.
    2. YOUR CHILD’S CURRENT IMMUNIZATION RECORDS
    3. YOUR CHILD’S ORIGINAL BIRTH CERTIFICATE – The name on the document will be the name used on all official school materials.
    4. VERIFICATION OF RESIDENCE – Three items proving residency are required.  Residence of a pupil shall be verified by the Principal or designee through these three items that list the name and current address of the child’s parent or guardian.  One of these is required: Driver’s license OR official California ID Card from the DMV Your second and third item can be any of the following:
      1. A utility bill dated within last 90 days: PG&E, home telephone bill, water bill, garbage bill, or cable bill.
      2. In combination only, automobile registration and automobile insurance (counts for two if and only if provided together).
      3. Homeowner’s/renter’s insurance policy.
      4. Property tax statement.
      5. Letter from a social services/government agency within last 90 days.
      6. Transitional families only: An affidavit of residence from Student, Family and Community Services in Portable 15 will suffice in lieu of three verifications of residence.
  3. SCHEDULE A PHYSICAL FOR YOUR CHILD  - Children entering kindergarten (and possibly your child entering 1st grade) need to have a health exam and get the required vaccinations between April and August before he/she starts Thornhill. The California School Immunization Law requires that children be up-to-date on their immunization shots to attend school or child care.
  4. BRING IN YOUR CHILD’S UPDATED IMMUNIZATION RECORDS Submit the updated Immunization Records to the school secretary before the first day of school.
