First Week of School Info

Welcome to the Thornhill School community! This page includes key information for new and returning Thornhill students to help you navigate the first few days of school in the Fall.

Classroom Assignments

Grade K:

Your child’s teacher’s name and room number will be mailed to you in the summer.

Grades 1-5:

Classroom assignments are posted on the lobby doors the Friday before school starts. Class assignments can remain in flux for the first 10 days, as exact enrollment is determined.

Grade K:

Backpack, snack and lunch

Grades 1-5:

Backpack, snack and lunch. Students may bring lunch or purchase it at school for $2.25 daily. Re-usable containers are encouraged to reduce trash.

Dress Code

No uniform is required; however, students are expected to dress appropriately for school. No inappropriate logos or advertisements, halter tops, bare midriffs or short shorts. Closed-toe shoes are required to use the play structure.

Where to Line Up For Class

Grade K:

Line up on the main school yard, at the numbers between the play structure and the fenced-in garden. The teacher will come out to lead them inside.

Grades 1-5:

Line up behind the appropriate classroom number painted on the yard asphalt after the bell rings at 8:40 a.m. Teachers escort students to their classrooms.

School Hours

Grade K:

8:20 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.*
* Wednesdays: 8:20 a.m. to 12:50 p.m.

Grades 1-5:

8:40 a.m. to 3 p.m.* * Wednesdays: 8:40 a.m. to 1:25 p.m.

Drop Off

Children may be dropped off unattended in the school yard after 8:30 AM, when yard supervision starts. There is no yard supervision after school; children are not allowed to be unattended in the yard after school.
