Thornhill PFC Strategy

As the PFC Board begins 2008, we are undertaking a process to set our strategy for the remainder of this year and the next. This will help us to appropriately set our 2008-09 budget and to identify any needed changes in direction in terms of programs we support or volunteers we need to recruit. Another part of this process is a re-examination of the PFC mission stated in our Bylaws as such:

“We, the parents and guardians of Thornhill Elementary School students, establish the Thornhill Parent Faculty Club (PFC), a volunteer organization, for the purpose of fostering academic knowledge, intellectual curiosity, imaginative thought, and social responsibility in our children. The PFC will work with the teachers and principal of Thornhill Elementary School to set priorities to supplement and support programs meeting these goals, and to raise and allocate funds to accomplish these goals.”

While this mission has served us well in the past, we want to make sure it still reflects our specific priorities going forward. Towards this end, the Board is undergoing an organizational analysis to assess our internal strengths and weaknesses, and to identify any external threats and opportunities that may exist outside our organization. The goal of this process is to maintain and improve on our strengths, address our weaknesses, mitigate possible threats, and take advantage of opportunities.

Here’s where we need your help. As each Thornhill parent and staff member is a member of the Thornhill PFC, your feedback in this process is essential in helping us to set our strategy for the coming years. You are invited to give us your feedback as to what you view as our strengths and weaknesses. What do we do well, what do you see as PFC strengths? What could we improve upon, what do you see as PFC weaknesses?

Please send your feedback to us by Sunday, February 10th. There are several ways you can send it in:

  1. 1. Do so via this website at http://www.thornhillschool.org/?id=pfc/feedback.

  2. 2. Send an email to feedback@thornhillschool.org.

  3. 3. Drop a hard-copy in the PFC President folder in the office.

All feedback will be presented for review by the Board in an anonymous fashion. No names will be attached to any responses we receive.

I encourage you to communicate your thoughts to us in an open and honest fashion as possible so that we gather a set of responses that truly indicate what the PFC community thinks about our organization. We will compile and share the feedback and initial plans for improvement of PFC performance at the PFC General meeting on Tuesday, February 26th.

I thank you all in advance for your time spent on helping us with this important undertaking, and please don’t hesitate to contact me directly at president@thornhillschool.org with any questions you may have about the process.
