The Thornhill Parent Faculty Club (PFC) welcomes the new and returning families to the 2010-2011 school year!  We are proud of the strong school that we as a community have built – one that fosters social and academic growth – as well as an environment that is fun and enriching for our children. In order to sustain this, we need your help. .

The Back to School Donation Drive is Thornhill’s first major fundraiser of the school year. Since this is a public school, you may expect that your taxes should cover your child’s education. The reality is that our school is funded both publicly and privately. Some of the most basic services your child receives at Thornhill would not be possible without your contributions.  The PFC’s operating budget for school programs is approximately $184,200; which equates to $500 per student. Here are some details of where your money goes:

• Personnel: 60% of the operating budget is for personnel which covers our librarian, P.E. teacher, a technology assistant, classroom aides and music instructorr


• Art: $40 per student is used for art supplies and for field trips related to the arts and visual arts. Thornhill’s art instruction is largely provided by a group of dedicated volunteer parents.


• Teacher and staff supplies: Our wonderful teachers and staff regularly reach into their own pockets to supplement supplies and materials needed to provide an enriching learning experience. The PFC also pitches in with a small fund for each teacher to use at their discretion for classroom needs.

Our annual fundraising activities encompass a wide range of events throughout the school year. You can review a summary of the year’s activities on the school’s web site and we welcome and encourage your participation. We would love for each family to make a donation of $500 per child, for the year, across all of our fundraising events. We realize that families are able to give at different levels and appreciate donations of time as well as funds.  However, to reach our budget needs for the year, it is critical that we raise a minimum of $500 per student.  Last year, just 30% of the families donated to the Back to School Donation Drive.  This year we strive for 100% participation!  Please give as your budget allows. Whether you donate $10 or $1,000, we welcome your contribution.  Check with your employer to see if they will provide a company match.  With everyone’s support, our children will have a great year!.
